Publishing Credits to Publishing Points

If you've logged into your account lately you've probably noticed that all your publishing credits disappeared and were replaced with Publishing Points. This change will make publishing even easier. Now you can change your mind about what projects you would like to create from what you purchased. When you check out, you just use your points instead of choosing the credit like you did before. All points come from the retail value. So if you purchased an 8x8 storybook on sale for $39.95, you would actually receive the full 49.95 points.

Here's how to access your points:

1. Go to www.tellingyourstories.ca and login.
2. Accept the terms and conditions (You'll only have to do this the first time you log in with the new system.)
3. Click My Account.
4. Click Publishing Points.

You should be able to see a list of all your available points, their expiration date, how many you have used, and how many points you have remaining.

Grabbing Elements

Are you having trouble grabbing small embellishments in your Heritage Makers' studio? Try this trick:

When wanting to pick up a tiny or transparent embellishment, simply click on one that is easy to grab, then press the control key, keeping it held down, click the arrow key. If the embellishment is to the right use the right arrow and the left arrow key if it is to the left. Each embellishment will be highlighted one at a time. Eventually the embellishment you want will be selected. There you go!

Father's Day Poster

Father's Day is right around the corner and I have a great Father's Day idea for you! Take a look at this 18x12 poster I made as a Father's Day gift for my husband for his first Father's Day!

If you're short on time but would like a Father's Day Poster I can help by making one for you for $30 (Canadian). All you'll need to do is send me 10-14 pictures, I will make up the project and e-mail you a copy before we publish it. The poster will be shipped to your door. If this is the route you'd like to go I need to have the pictures by Monday May 31, 2010 to make sure it arrives in time!

Or you can make your own! The cost for one 18x12 poster is $12.95 USD (ordered through me). Shipping is $1-$16 depending the method you choose.

Saskatoon Family Expo

We are getting organized for our second trade show - the Saskatoon Family Expo! The show is runs:
Friday, April 23rd - 5 - 9 pm
Saturday, April 24th 10 am - 5 pm
Sunday, April 25th 11 am -5 pm

The Saskatoon Family Expo is the largest event in Saskatoon dedicated
to pregnancy, birth, babies toddlers, preschoolers, children, parents and
grandparents too. Make it a family day!

We will have a wonderful display set up with some new samples and a door prize draw for an 8"x20" canvas!

Template Transformation

Heritage Makers Templates are amazing!! I wanted to make a canvas print with some pictures of our grandson and found this template:

The layout was great but the colors weren't what I wanted. The designer had gone to a lot of work laying out the quilt look which was fantastic. So, I found a collection called 'Summer Boys' that had great colors and embellishments and used the drag & drop feature to replace the quilt pieces. I added my own pictures and replaced a few embellishments and it was done in no time!

Greeting Cards

We have a box full of lovely cards from thoughtful people that were sent to us when Logan was born...and I have no idea what to do with them. Seems like a shame to recycle them when I think of all the money that was spent on them, effort put into sending them and energy put into producing them. On the other hand, do I really want to store a box of baby cards? Are they really going to enrich my life in 10 years?

We had the same dilemma with the Christmas cards we received this year...to keep or recycle? We decided to keep the homemade ones, the letters and the ones where people had taken the time to write a meaningful message. Those cards that were just signed or had a standard "Happy Holidays" or "Happy New Year" scribbled in them went into the recycling bin.

Have you ever wondered how much money you spend on greeting cards? I'll be honest, I rarely buy greeting cards because I don't like spending $5 on a card that will likely end up in the recycling box within a couple of weeks. Paige recently adopted a new technique of spending another $5 on the gift instead of buying a card. A system much appreciated by the her nieces and nephews who have little use for a card but many uses for another $5!

According to Hallmark, Mother's Days the "third-largest card-sending occasion of the year. Over nine million Mother's Day cards will be given this year. Hallmark offers over 1,000 different designs, making it easy to find the card that will say "I love you" in your own special way." (http://www.hallmark.ca/) I'm not sure I agree. Is purchasing a card that someone else designed and wrote, then signing your name to it really that special?

I have a better option, why not actually make a personalized card using Heritage Makers? You can buy 10 greeting cards for $2.59 (USD) each, customize them and send them directly to the Mothers in your life. I just spend about 20 minutes and made this card for my Grandma, Logan's Great-Grandma. It was simple, fast and I know she will be thrilled to see pictures of her, my Grandpa and Logan!

We are getting organized for our first tradeshow - the Regina Baby Expo! The show is on Sunday April 11 from 11am-4pm at the Conexus Arts Centre (200A Lakeshore Drive).

Regionals

We are just back from attending a Heritage Makers Regional Conference in Calgary! It was a great chance to meet other Heritage Makers and get new project and business ideas. There are so many ways that Heritage Makers products can help us to preserve our family memories. We heard many touching stories about the meaningful projects people have created for themselves and for their families. A 5X5 book for a little boy who broke his arm, a 12X12 book as a graduation present, a princess book about a special cat, a family canvass to display in a home...the list goes on and on.

I am especially excited about the Board Books. My son Logan already has one Paige (his Grandma) made him a Body Parts book for Christmas. There are so many ways we will be able to remind him how special and loved he is through these sturdy, kid-friendly books. Like this VIP template.

Embarrassingly we did not take any pictures of the conference...I'm sure some will come our way soon. Conversely, we did take hundreds of pictures of the family trip we took to Banff just before the conference. I have an inkling there will be a storybook about it coming soon to a mailbox near us very soon!

Vacation Memories

We just hung two of the new Heritage Makers 20 x 20" canvas prints on our living room wall and they look great!! In 2008 the six of us had a fantastic vacation through Great Britain and France. The one on the left is pictures from York - fabulous stained glass, wonderful ruins and interesting architecture. The one on the right is memories of my Grandma's birthplace - Wilcott, England - the school and church she attended, the market in Shrewsbury where her mother sold butter and the six of us near where she lived from 1911 until her family came to Canada in 1924.
